20 January, 2021 is a day that will go down in history. Not because it was the day that Joseph R. Biden Jr. was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States of America, but because it was the day Senator Bernie Sanders sat on a fold-up chair at the inauguration inadvertently became the meme of the decade.
To attempt to explain why the original photograph of Sanders sat there blew up the way it did would take a better man than me. Perhaps it was the little mittens? Maybe it was the fact that his pose, crossed arms with an unreadable expression, made him the perfect subject to appear in almost any scene. Over the last few days Sanders and his chair have been on quite the journey, appearing in everything from Skyrim to Star Wars.
