Beat Saber Modder Creates Massive 60-Metre Playing Space, And It Looks Exhausting

The popular VR rhythm game Beat Saber has proven itself not only as a great advert for how much fun virtual reality games can be when done right, but also as a truly effective way to lose weight while having a great time doing so. Not that you need to lose any weight. Look at you. You're beautiful. Even you back there with the ears.

Anyway, my point is that Beat Saber already offers a fun -if slightly demanding - workout routine, so it really doesn't need to expand its modest playspace any further. That's what I would have thought anyway, but that hasn't stopped VR creators TougeVR, Joetastic, QTpop, and Ruu from creating a mod together which turns the game's traditional four-lane map into an insanely-large 90-lane, 60-metre marathon ordeal.

The usual jumping, arm-waving, and short hops that a game of Beat Saber typically requires is transformed by the mod, which adds actual goddam sprinting into the mix. One game looks to be a workout you won't soon forget, as evidenced in the video below in which a brave soul sprints around a car park and waves his arms around as if he's being chased by invisible wasps.

Personally, I often feel awkward enough working out in the privacy of my home, so there's no way I could ever see myself dashing around a public space in broad daylight with a VR headset on, but props to the guy - he clearly doesn't care what any passerby might think of him.

It's worth noting that this was all made possible thanks to the wireless capabilities of the Oculus Quest, a device which has been shown off in a far more interesting way here than the majority of its official marketing. The creators promise that what we see above of "Project Sprint" is just a taste of things to come, which is as terrifying as it is exciting.

Before this 90-lane monstrosity came along, the most modders did to extend Beat Saber was a relatively modest six-lanes. Now it's been proven that a 60-metre-wide monstrosity is possible, who knows where Project Sprint will end? 100 lanes? 300? Just remember guys, just because you can make a 90-lane Beat Saber map does not mean that you have to play a 90-lane Beat Saber map. There's a very good chance doing so could result in some sort of cardiac arrest, and we don't want that.
