Plumbers don’t wear ties, but they do wear this

2020 has been a year, and it's not over yet. GAME has just announced that it's selling way more than software, consoles, toys and accessories this Christmas. The UK retailer of all things gaming - the clue's in the name, really - is also selling... perfume?

Lemme just check this press release again. Yep, perfume. Two varieties of fragrance, no less, both of which are gaming-themed, as you'd imagine given the company's main stock in trade.

Says a press release: "GAME, the UK's largest high street retailer of video games, today proudly announced the launch of its first-ever foray into luxury perfumery, with the stunning unisex fragrances Eau De Plumber and FPS (First Person Scent)."

Not sure whether to laugh or cry here, personally. But hey, we all need gift ideas this time of year, and if panic-buying for otherwise-stinky gamers is your thing, hey, here's a product for you. Two of them, even. Take your pick.

Bottles of Eau De Plumber - obviously themed around Mario and related games (check out our Evolution Of... video, below) - and FPS - shooters, respectively - are only available via GAME's website, not in physical stores. Which is great for maintaining that all-important social distancing, but not so good for checking what these actually smell like, before you buy them.

But, thankfully(?), GAME is on hand to provide a guide to the whiffiness of each specially created fragrance. Eau De Plumber is, apparently, "painstakingly blended with deep, toadstooly undertones, with high tones of peach and daisy". Almost cut myself on those puns, but at the same time, fair play, copywriter, fair play. It's worth noting here that this is definitely not a product bearing the Official Nintendo Seal of Quality.

And FPS? "The grenade-shaped scent can be described as 'best appreciated from thirty feet away' and 'slightly gunpowdery' and is a celebration of the nation's love of popular FPS games." I, too, am best appreciated from a distance, but mostly smell of pizza and IPA.

GAME adds that "both fragrances have been expertly curated and crafted by some of Basingstoke's leading perfumers". Both Eau De Plumber and FPS are on sale for £19.99 each, for a 200ml bottle - click the names to go directly to the relevant product page. These are limited-run items, so if you really need them, for reasons, don't delay.
