Who wants some free video games, and critically acclaimed ones at that? Well, of course you do, otherwise, why would you be here?

Video games can offer a temporary safe haven from our worldly woes, something I'd argue we need now more than ever. However, video games tend to cost us money. Which, you know, is fair enough given that the people who make 'em deserve to get paid.

Thankfully, we’ve got you covered with a couple of video games that won’t cost you a single penny. Just be warned: this is your last chance to grab 'em.

Actually, when we say two free video games, one of the free offerings technically includes four video games as well as an additional multiplayer mode. So, what are the free critically acclaimed video games, I hear you ask?

The first free video game is Severed Steel, developed by Greylock Studio. This action-packed first-person indie darling has received rave reviews from critics and fans alike. On Metacritic, Severed Steel has scored as high as 78 and is reviewed as ‘Very Positive’ on Steam.

“Severed Steel is a single-player FPS featuring a fluid stunt system, destructible voxel environments, loads of bullet time, and a unique one-armed protagonist,” reads the description of the game. “It's you, your trigger finger, and a steel-toed boot against a superstructure full of bad guys. Chain together wall runs, dives, flips, and slides to take every last enemy down.”

Next up is a collection of remastered sci-fi real-time strategy classics with the Homeworld Remastered Collection from Gearbox Software and Aspyr. On Metacritic, Homeworld Remastered Collection has scored an impressive 86 and is also reviewed as ‘Very Positive’ on Steam.

“Experience the epic space strategy games that redefined the RTS genre. Control your fleet and build an armada across more than 30 single-player missions. Choose unit types, fleet formations and flight tactics for each strategic situation,” reads its synopsis. “Utilise advanced research to construct ships ranging from light fighters to huge carriers and everything in between.”

This sci-fi collection of RTS joy includes Homeworld Remastered, Homeworld 2 Remastered, and its multiplayer mode, as well as access to the original two games. Happy days!

If you want even more free video game goodness, Xbox Game Pass has just added six critically acclaimed titles of its own and a new RPG has been described as being an ‘absolute blast’ by PlayStation Plus subscribers.
