If you’re an everyday Fortnite player, you may not be aware of the massive court case against Epic Games that occurred in 2023, ending with the FTC landing a substantial and historic win over the developer and publisher.
During the case, the FTC put forward that Epic Games had used “deceptive” practices resulting in players making unwanted purchases within Fortnite.
The result was Epic Games having to pay out over $126 million worth of refunds to players who believe they were subject to the deception, and refunds started processing in December 2024.

However, the FTC has opened a new window for refunds, allowing players, or their parents and guardians, to apply for a chance to get their money back.
The new refund window is open until 9 July 2025, and will add to the 629,344 refunds from last year.
During the last batch of refunds, the American agency revealed that the average refund was around $114 per player, so if you believe you were a victim of this misleading practice, you could be in with a chance to secure some of that money back.
This is a situation for US players only, and all applications must be made through the FTC website.

If your application is successful, you will be contacted by the FTC who will pay you via cheque or PayPal, both of which you will need to claim within 90 days of correspondence.
This time around, the FTC aims to deliver 969,173 refunds as part of over $200 million in reimbursement.
This was, and still is, an unprecedented victory for the FTC and for players who believe they were tricked by Epic Games into spending more money via the Fortnite store.
If you missed the first refund window, you’ve now got an extra two weeks to make your claim.
