Far Cry 3 gets stunning remaster you can check out for free

Far Cry 3 was already a stunner to begin with

One of the most popular entries in the Far Cry series was in 2012 bringing in a stunning tropical island, fun gameplay and an iconic villain.

Before it was even released, Ubisoft must have already known that it had a hit on its hands with Far Cry 3 with fans going wild for its new villain who featured heavily in its marketing campaigns with Vaas Montenegro played by Michael Mando (Better Call Saul, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Orphan Black).

Check out the Far Cry 3 Classic Edition trailer below!

“Discover the dark secrets of a lawless island ruled by violence and take the fight to the enemy as you try to escape. You’ll need more than luck to escape alive!” reads the ominous synopsis of Far Cry 3.

Even today, over a decade later, Far Cry 3 has aged like a fine wine and if you play the Classic Edition which was released in 2018, it looks better with an increased resolution. However, this Classic Edition wasn't the remaster fans had hoped for with a locked 30 frames-person-second as well as its map editor and multiplayer being removed.

Thankfully at least, fans have us covered doing great work that for whatever reason, wasn't done by official developers or publishers. So if you want a stunning remaster that does Far Cry 3 the justice it deserves, look no further than the ‘HD Texture Pack’ mod created by VikMorroHun available to download for free via Nexusmods.

This glorious free mod increases the Far Cry 3 texture files from 256x256 pixels to 1024x1024, 512x512 to 2048x2048 and so forth. There are no gameplay improvements with this mod, it’s purely graphical, so it’s as faithful of a remaster as it gets.

Sadly, as in most cases, this Far Cry 3 mod is only available for the PC version of the game. For the rest of us, we can at least enjoy this Ubisoft classic as intended on PlayStation and Xbox.
