There’s a new game coming to Steam Early-Access this year that’s equal parts Fallout and Valheim, and there’s even some shared DNA with one of the best indie games ever made too.

It’s been a fantastic couple of years for indie games, especially last year which gave us some banging titles like Thank Goodness You’re Here.

There’s even more to play in 2025 too, like Lost Records: Bloom & Rage

That’s not what we’re talking about today though, as that honour goes to Prologue: Go Wayback!, a PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions game that’ll hit Steam this year.

To put it simply Go Wayback! Is a survival game that’ll thrown you into the a gorgeous but dangerous wilderness environment.

It simulates all the things you’d need to be aware of when stuck in a survival situation, such as food, water, fatigue etc, with visuals not dissimilar to Firewatch if you’ve played that.

Of course it also has several similarities with games like Fallout and Valheim, but fortunately you won’t be hunted by various mutants and creatures in this game.

Each run of the game is supposedly completely different as well, with the final goal being to reach the Weather Tower, that’s what you’re surviving for.

It looks really good though, and it feels like the survival mechanics have had a lot of thought put into them, especially building shelters to aid you on your journey.

You can of course check out the gameplay trailer online, but stay-tuned for the prologue’s release later this year on Steam.

There’s no exact date for when it’ll drop into early-access but the studio has said it’ll be some time during Summer 2025 which isn’t too far away.

In the meantime, I’d recommend checking out Firewatch as the gameplay for this game has reminded me that it exists and how good it is. It's also like £2 on the PlayStation Store at the time of writing which is a steal.
