Could Fallout 5 be set in Florida?

You’d be hard-pressed to pick between which Bethesda RPG series is the best, Fallout or The Elder Scrolls? To be honest, answering such a topical question could spark an internet war for the ages, probably.

The Elder Scrolls VI was announced during E3 2018 with a cinematic trailer that gave us a glorious bird’s-eye view of Tamriel ending with its logo. As I write that down, I know it doesn't sound all that exciting, but trust me, if you’re an Elder Scrolls fan and you watched that trailer as it premiered, it was a goosebumps moment.

Check out our fun chat with the cast of the Fallout TV series below!

Sadly, since that time, we’ve learned very little about The Elder Scrolls VI. We don't know when it will be released or what location of Tamriel it will be set. Heck, at this point, we’re not even sure if The Elder Scrolls VI will be released on Xbox Series X/S. The most recent piece of news that we’ve been fed is that there is apparently a playable build of The Elder Scrolls VI in the Bethesda headquarters.

As for Bethesda’s other highly anticipated RPG, Fallout 5, we know even less about when or where the next tales of the post-apocalyptic wastelands will take us. All we know for sure is that Fallout 5 will be released at some point and it will be after The Elder Scrolls VI, meaning that it could be several years away at least. That being said, it hasn't stopped fans from speculating about what could be in Fallout 5 and the world of tabletop RPGs is no exception.

“A map of Southern Florida I plan on using in a Fallout game!” announced Reddit user DigBigSaul. The fan-made map of Southern Florida looks like it could be straight out of the Fallout series but rather than being a location in Fallout 5, this wonderfully crafted map is intended for the d20 system for the 3rd edition Dungeons & Dragons RPG by Wizards of the Coast. Thanks to the open gaming licence, fan-made projects such as the one proposed in this Reddit thread are possible.

“Yo, I see you have the villages there. Please make psychopathic golf-carting boomer ghouls,” replied kaumahazerda. “There needs to be a ghoul named Florida Man,” exclaimed Melodic-Mix739. “The joke's on you, Florida is already a post-apocalyptic wasteland,” joked Ace-O-Matic.

Could Fallout 5 be set in Florida? It would certainly make for an interesting location. We have no idea when Bethesda will officially reveal Fallout 5 or give us some gameplay of The Elder Scrolls VI but hopefully, we’ll be given something this year. As for the Fallout TV series on Prime Video, all eight episodes will premiere on Thursday, 11 April 2024.
