Fallout players can now pick up a new free expansion for Fallout 4 titled Forgotten Valley.
Joining the likes of excellent mods like the Northern Springs DLC or Journey to Ipswich, Forgotten Valley (via DSOG) is a new DLC-sized mod which adds a brand new standalone location to the game.
Created by Fallout modder ThisMalkavian, the mod's main focus is on "exploration, survival, and discovery," and should be a decent one for inquisitive players to check out.
Forgotten Valley adds a brand new standaline location to Fallout 4 called, you guessed it, "Forgotten Valley".
Advert
This new area features a "dark, oppressive atmosphere", adding a degree of mystique to Fallout 4's Commonwealth wasteland that is seen in the base game and official DLCs.
There are also numerous new enemies and hidden secrets which can be found in this brand new area.
In terms of aesthetics, players who managed to get through Fallout 4's Far Harbor DLC (or the Point Lookout expansion from Fallout 3) will find some similarities here.
Both Far Harbor and Point Lookout are set on islands with mutated aquatic creatures, and while Forgotten Valley is set in a valley rather than an island, there is a similar aura of a dark twistedness which is present here.

To access the valley, you can discover its entrance upon completion of a quest found in the main questline.
Once you've got so far through the main quest, you'll automatically unlock the quest which triggers the start of Forgotten Valley.
As the main quest is focused on "exploration and discovery" rather than relying on "deep narrative branching, complex dialogue systems, or nonlinear quest design," you're better off bringing some decent equipment and weapons you can utilise for action and stealth encounters.
As ThisMalkavian says after all, this is a mod for "high-level characters with strong gear and preparation".
With that in mind, you'll also encounter a small number of friendly NPCs, merchants, and several quest-related characters which will help to move the story along.
Meanwhile, be sure to also remain aware of some issues which may be present in the mod. ThisMalkavian says Forgotten Valley is "heavily unoptimised", so you should expect performance drops and long loading times to appear.
Even with that in mind though, the mod has been fully tested and confirmed to be playable from start to finish.
If you'd like to check out Forgotten Valley, you can download it from the Fallout 4 page on Nexus Mods.
