‘Doctor Strange 2’ Is Doing Some Serious Reshoots

The team is doing several weeks of six-day shoots to keep on track

It seems that the second Doctor Strange film, the Multiverse of Madness needs some “significant” reshoots before the end of the year. The film sees the return of Benedict Cumberbatch as the surgeon turned superhero, as well other Marvel cast members. Apparently they’ve had to come back to set as reshooting has commenced, and experts are split on if this is a normal amount of work for Marvel movies to reshoot or a worrying sign about the state of the film.

As reported by THR, Benedict Cumberbatch and director Sam Raimi are in the process of reshooting some of the film. Sources have told the outlet that all Marvel films have a process of reshooting that actors will be booked for, while others are saying that the amount of reshooting isn’t normal.

One source is quoted saying: “Even while in the middle of production, Marvel is scheduling you for more shooting” and another confirms that “We’ve had bigger reshoots on other MCU movies.” However, other sources have said: “They’re here until the end of the year. That’s like a whole other movie.”

Apparently, the team are going to be doing six weeks of shooting at least, with six-day weeks. There is new material written for the film by Loki head writer Michael Waldron, but sources tell THR these shoots aren’t telling an entirely new story. Apparently, it’s additional photography for the film and regular reshoots.

It’s unusual for there to be such a split opinion on these reshoots. Those with knowledge of the film are going back and forth between how much needs to be changed. However, what might be a good sign is that Marvel is willing to get everyone back on set to fix and rework everything that’s needed before the release of Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, in May 2022.
