DC is ending Aquaman franchise, Jason Momoa being cast as a new character

Executives are keen to keep the charismatic actor in the mix.

A recent report from The Hollywood Reporter seems to suggest that Jason Momoa will not play Aquaman after the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and that the new DCU has plans to cast him as another character.

Yes, that's the DCU, not the DCEU. The revamped universe will be captained by James Gunn and Peter Safran, and while you might be already familiar with Gunn's work, his collaborator is the producer of a number of horror films like The Conjuring series and The Nun as well as The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. A rather wide range, one would say.

Wondering what to write on your list for Santa? Here's our review of Rocksteady Games' action-adventure Gotham Knights:

Into the future of the DCU, The Hollywood Reporter claims that the Snyderverse will be no more and Wonder Woman 3 is cancelled. Man of Steel 2 and any more Aquaman films have suffered the same fate, however, the executives are keen to keep Jason Momoa in the mix. At the moment, his name is in contention for castings for the character of Lobo, who had previously been played by Emmett J. Scanlan.

The revival of the alien bounty hunter Lobo, the report continues, might signify the sort of direction that Gunn and Safran would like to push the DCU into. Lobo is originally a parody of the Punisher in Marvel Comics and even Stan Lee called him his favourite character of the rival comic book universe. Of course, this is all unconfirmed, and the issue that Man of Steel 2 might have been binned may become a proper pickle for Henry Cavill who only just said how happy he was to be back.
