CD Projekt Red has responded to the rumours that Cyberpunk 2077 would be "soft relaunched" under the new name "Samurai Edition," addressing problems like character customisation, artificial intelligence of the NPCs, the loot system as well as offering a whole new expansion on the RPG.
These tidbits emerged through a post to Reddit and was apparently sourced from someone who was close to how patches on Cyberpunk 2077 were progressing one year after its release. Titled "Samurai Edition", it was suggested that this update would reinvigorate the game with barbershops, a transmogrification system, a garage, and more. The next free DLC would have comprised four new weapons, a new game plus feature, new gigs and the ability to customise V's apartment. On the other hand, a paid expansion would take the player to Pacifica with a new combat zone wherein two new rival factions are fighting for supremacy. The vibe would have been similar to STALKER, continued the supposed insider, and Cyberpunk 2077 would have even gotten a minigame similar to The Witcher 3's Gwent.
Sworn off the cyberpunk genre? Not so fast, champ. Here's Stray, an upcoming adventure where a lost cat must navigate a city filled with robots to find their family.
It's sounding plausible, isn't it? Well, multiple members of the CD Projekt Red team have shot down the rumours of a soft relaunch, and that's been a disheartening discovery for a community who were waiting for their luck to turn. "This thing does not add up," said global PR director in response to the report from Forbes on the Samurai Edition. Those who think the glass is half-full might interpret this to mean that there is some credence in the supposed leak of the next update. Those who think the glass is half-empty will be vindicated with this comment from quest designer Paweł Sasko.
“'Cyberpunk 2077: Samurai Edition'? I hope you know that this is an absolute rumor, and nothing is confirmed from that rumor. I just don’t want you guys to be like, disappointed and expect something else, you know? Because you’ve been hearing some sometimes made-up things,” explained Sasko while streaming. CD Projekt Red has been reticent to confirm what is on the cards for Cyberpunk 2077, and that's understandable. Nevertheless, new gigs, weapons and new game plus have been found through datamining so it's strange that the studio would categorically deny their existence. We'll have to wait and see what patch 1.5 has in store.
