Call Of Duty Devs Are Making A New Game That Sounds Totally Different

A job listing on Infinity Ward's website seems to have revealed that the studio are working on a new open-world RPG.

In the past week or so, we’ve been seeing a whole lot of stuff about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, and actually officially, for once. Although it feels like we already knew quite a bit about it before, a lot of information had come from leaks and insiders, but now that a lot of stuff is actually confirmed, fans can get properly hyped.

The devs have been promising that the game will introduce “a new era” for the franchise, and with rumours that it could even include a map editor for the first time in the series’ history, that doesn’t seem like an exaggeration. However, it also sounds like Infinity Ward might be spreading their wings a bit, and branching out in a whole new direction.

Take a look at the new gameplay footage for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II below.

As reported by Dexerto, a job listing has been spotted on the studio’s website which seems to imply that the team are looking to make an open-world RPG. Up to now, they’ve been focused solely on CoD, and therefore, FPS games, so it’d be a pretty huge change.

The listing has since been removed from the site, but according to Dexerto, its emphasis was on “narrative and cinematic experience in an open-world RPG”, and highlighted “story, characters, lore, and world-building” as well as “writers [and] quest designers”. The candidate they were looking for also apparently needed experience creating “non-linear narratives in open-world games”.

Now, the interesting thing about this is that it could mean that CoD is going to be branching out into the open-world RPG genre, or Infinity Ward are developing a brand new IP. Either of these would be a big deal, with both being massive firsts. With the so-called “new era” of CoD coming, maybe this variation in genre is a part of that - we’ll just have to wait and see. Personally, I’d love to see it.
