Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was one of 2025’s biggest and best games, and with news of a live-action adaptation in the works, players have already put together their dream cast.
In case you missed the news, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was a big deal last year. It got heaps of praise at launch, won many Game of the Year awards, and sold millions of copies.
With that kind of success, it’s clear that developer Sandfall Interactive wants to branch out and expand it into a franchise.
A live-action adaptation in collaboration with Story Kitchen is already in development, though nothing major regarding the cast and crew has been announced yet. That hasn’t stopped fans from dreaming up their own live-action cast for the film, though.

Clair Obscur Live-Action Casting "Isn't Even Debatable"
As posted on the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Reddit page, one user has assigned each major character in the game a Hollywood actor they feel would deliver the best performance.
The user casts Robert Pattinson as Gustave, which they say isn’t even debatable, as well as Wednesday’s Emma Myers as Maelle, Pierce Brosnan as Renoir, Mikey Madison as Lune, Ella Purnell as Sciel, and Ben Barnes as Verso.

They’re all cool picks, but I also feel like it leans very heavily on casting actors who look like the characters but wouldn’t necessarily deliver the right performance.
Nonetheless, this has generated a lot of discussion in the comments, with particular attention drawn to the choice of Ella Purnell, who currently stars as Lucy in Amazon’s Fallout television series.

“I don’t think any other celebrity could play Sciel tbh. Ella Purnell not only looks like her but they just give the same vibe,” reads one comment underneath the post.
“I mean a younger Penelope Cruz would be a dead ringer for Sciel, but Ella Purnell makes sense in the current Hollywood landscape,” reads another comment.
“Ella does not want to be typecast as ‘video game adaptation girl’ (she has stated that her role in Fallout will be her last of this kind for this very reason),” reads a third comment. “So even in our hypothetical I don't think she would be interested.”
In addition to Fallout, Purnell also starred as Jinx in Netflix’s Arcane, an adaptation of League of Legends. Her non-video game adaptation roles include the lead character in Sweetpea, Jackie Taylor in Yellowjackets, and Gwyn in Star Trek: Prodigy.
