Great Scott! Christopher Lloyd, best known for his role as Dr. Emmett Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy, will be joining the cast of The Mandalorian for its upcoming third season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As of now, the details of his role are completely unknown, but reportedly, he’s set to be a guest star, rather than a series regular. So, it could just be a short cameo, or it could be something bigger - we’ll just have to wait and see. It won’t be the first time that the show has introduced a famous face as a guest - the second season saw The Terminator star Michael Biehn feature prominently in episode five, “The Jedi”.

There’s currently no release date set for season three of The Mandalorian, but when asked about it last year, when the main focus was still on The Book of Boba Fett, the show’s producer Dave Filoni hinted that there’ll be a lot for fans to be excited about.

“Oh, that's a tricky one,” Filoni said at the time, when asked about season three. “You know I don't like to go into those answers without Jon here, my partner Jon Favreau. It's exciting, we're both working on that, we're working on Boba Fett right now, so there's a lot of new adventures coming up. I have to be careful, I can't really say anything specific, but I think the Force will be strong with it. Let's just say that.”

Right now though, the fan focus definitely seems to be on one of the other Disney+ Star Wars series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. We just recently got our first trailer for the show, and it’s looking pretty incredible. The beloved Ewan McGregor is making his return in the titular role, which is probably all that fans needed to know to sell them on watching it. There’s not too long to wait, either - it’s set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ on 25 May.
