Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 released to rave reviews, but the opinions of fans have certainly soured as the months have gone on. In fact, the situation has gotten so bad that according to one insider, Warzone 2.0 could soon be coming to an end as we know it.

Back when Warzone 2.0 was released, players were full of praise for the popular proximity chat, but that alone wasn’t enough to sustain interest for months on end. Call of Duty fans have been underwhelmed by the number of disappointing updates, the worst footstep audio ‘in gaming history’, the performance of the servers, and the ‘shameless’ pay-to-win bundles. Streamer Dr DisRespect has vocally berated the game and it’s seen a rapidly dwindling playerbase, although it still draws plenty in. It appears as if devs are taking notes as one insider is claiming that the game will soon be coming to an end as we know it, but it will be reborn.

Take a look at Warzone 2.0 in action below.

As reported by CharlieINTEL, Warzone 2.0 will drop its title when season four is launched, instead reverting back to simply being known as Warzone. They tweeted, “Crazy that just six months after launch, Activision will drop the ‘2.0’ from Warzone and just call it Warzone. Should’ve always just been Warzone from the start. ‘2.0’ did not do anything.”

It’s an interesting move because yes, on the whole, fans much prefer the original Warzone but simply reverting the name of Warzone 2.0 back to the original won’t necessarily make it that game. We’re going to have to see a number of content changes too. What we do know is that season four is set to be fully unveiled at tonight’s Summer Game Fest so it shouldn’t be long until we find out what other changes the game has in store.

Fans have mixed feelings. “Really stupid,” one Twitter user wrote, while another added, “2.0 hurt more than it helped.” Someone commented, “More pointless changes. Brave for doing the bare minimum.” It’ll be interesting to see how tonight’s reveal goes down.
