Call Of Duty fans threaten to boycott Activision following Warzone shutdown

It's been confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera is being shut down in September, and fans are calling for an Activision boycott.

It’s official - the era of the original Warzone is over, as it's been confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera is being shut down for good in September.

The release of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 (which was recently renamed to Call of Duty: Warzone, confusingly) wasn’t met with much enthusiasm from fans. In the months since its release, there have been countless complaints about pretty much everything, from the maps to the footstep audio. With that in mind, it’s been nice that the original Warzone has been kept alive (sort of, anyway) for all this time, but those days are almost over.

Take a look at some hilarious wins and fails from the original Warzone below.

“As of 21 September, 2023, Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera will shut down, as our teams focus on future Call of Duty content including the current Warzone free-to-play experience,” the devs announced in a blog post on the Call of Duty site. “We all have had incredible Warzone experiences across the Call of Duty franchise since its first launch, including those in Warzone Caldera.”

As you’d expect, fans aren’t happy at all. Over on Reddit, players have been expressing their anger and disappointment over the decision, and as Video Gamer reports, some have even suggested boycotting Activision.

“They don’t give a single s**t about you. Pick up some single player games, try some fighting games, but just stop supporting Activision,” one fan said in a comment which has now been deleted.

Others have been sharing similar sentiments: “Caldera is all me and my buddies play. Won’t be joining WZ2. They’re quite thirsty for new players. Yikes,” wrote nedimiedin. “RIP to the greatest [battle royale] ever! This will also surely be the last time I give money to this company,” commented campuscodi. “I'll never give the COD franchise a penny for their DLC after this. F**k them,” added Comrade2k7.

Be sure to make the most of Warzone Caldera while you can before it’s gone for good - it seems unlikely that Activision will change its mind about the decision.
