BioWare Hires Popular YouTuber To Work On 'Mass Effect 5'

We seem to be getting a lot more news on the fifth entry recently.

First we heard from BioWare about Mass Effect 5 was all the way back in 2020 and there's been only a sparse few developments since then.

Now, Michael Tucker from YouTube channel Lessons From The Screenplay has announced that he has been hired by the studio to work on "the next installment of Mass Effect." While he is giving very little away about the new position, we can guess the role based on this general output. Tucker's channel, which has almost 1.5million subscribers, discusses various films, TV shows, and video games in the context of the strengths, weaknesses, and tropes of their writing.

Take a look at November's teaser trailer for Mass Effect 5 in the video below.

Tucker, who has a background in screenwriting, posted a video last year about how the story from Mass Effect could go, and in fact be adapted into a screenplay with the possibility for it to become as successful as Game Of Thrones. It seems this message was taken to heart, as Amazon Studios are reportedly working on a TV adaptation of the gaming franchise.

However, Tucker's tweet (as spotted by MetaGamePort) suggests that this project isn't what he will be working on. While he claims he "can't say anything more for now" the wording points to Mass Effect 5 as the project he's been hired for. With his background and the experience he has with the channel, the role is presumably for writing. This is possibly even overarching themes of story and world building, than merely dialogue. BioWare recently released an update on the title though saying that it is still years away from release.

The fact that the team gave an update last month, and now new hires are being announced is actually very promising. This all points to development being smoothly underway.
