The Elder Scrolls franchise is not only one of the most popular and beloved in the fantasy RPG genre, but it’s also one of the most cherished across all genres of video games.

Released in 2011, Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a gift that keeps on giving, not only due to its near countless flurry of re-releases and upgrades but also thanks to its talented and devoted modding community.

It’s fair to say that perhaps no game has been better supported by mods than Skyrim and the topic of today’s discussion might just be the greatest one yet. The mod in question is ‘Beyond Skyrim: Croydiil’ and it’s available via Nexusmods. This mammoth of a mod not only adds 116 new quests but also a huge returning region and even claims to have more voiced lines of dialogue than the base game. Concerning the returning region, players will be able to visit Cyrodiil once more which was the location of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

“Travel beyond the borders of Skyrim, and visit Bruma, the northmost county in Cyrodiil. Discover what has become of the city's residents since the events of Oblivion in all-new adventures and storylines. Plunge into the depths of ancient Ayleid ruins,” reads the description of the mod.

“Explore an expansive region larger and denser than the Dragonborn DLC. In ‘Beyond Skyrim: Bruma’, the choices - and their consequences - are yours alone. Rediscover Frostcrag Spire, Cloud Ruler Temple, Frostfire Glade and many other legendary locations. The journey back to the Heartland begins now. Are you prepared?”

‘Beyond Skyrim’ has been in development for nearly 12 years at this point and the hard work is certainly paying off. At this time, this huge mod is still in somewhat in its beta phase with no full release date announced, though we’re sure it will be worth the wait.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
