Batman: Arkham Knight sequel footage appears online, sending fans wild

Instead, we got Suicide Squad

Batman fans go wild over leaked footage that claims to be from the now-cancelled Arkham Knight sequel.

After releasing its first game in 2006 with the relatively unknown Urban Chaos: Riot Response, Rocksteady Studios asserted itself as one of the top video game developers following the release of Batman: Arkham Asylum in 2009.

Rocksteady Studios would then follow up with two more hits in this new series with Batman: Arkham City in 2011 and Batman: Arkham Knight in 2015.

At this point, Rocksteady Studios could do no wrong with fans itching for its next entry inspired by DC’s popular Caped Crusader.

Sadly, Rocksteady Studio could do a lot wrong after all, as we all discovered with the colossal 2024 flop, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. A co-op multiplayer game that was so bad that publisher Warner Bros. Games ended its support barely a year after its release.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was so bad that it severely damaged the reputation of Rocksteady Studios, undoing pretty much all the goodwill it had earned from its fans over the years.

Sure, Rocksteady Studios isn't quite dead yet, but a way that it could regain respect from its fans is perhaps by releasing a new game in the Batman: Arkham series.

In recent months, we’ve heard rumours that Batman: Arkham Asylum could be getting a full remake, built from the ground up, which would be awesome if true.

However, other rumours have been making the rounds that we nearly got a brand new Arkham game starring Damian Wayne, the son of the billionaire Bruce Wayne, until it was reportedly cancelled internally.

Damian Wayne is perhaps best known as the “Boy Wonder” Robin, but in some comic book tales, he also donned the iconic cowl of Batman to become the defender of Gotham City.

Previously leaked concept art for the cancelled Batman: Arkham sequel suggested that it would feature Bruce Wayne, Killer Croc and Huntress.

Following the concluding events of Batman: Arkham Knight, I’d find it interesting to know how Rocksteady Studios would have written Bruce Wayne into the story of this now-cancelled game. Unless it was set in a different timeline or multiverse.

With that in mind, as brought to our attention by Reddit user ArkhamIsComing2020, a tweet posted by ‘The Arkham Channel’ reveals concept gameplay footage of Killer Croc riding a chopper motorcycle while being chased by Batman on his Batcycle.

“WB is genuinely run by idiots, isn't it? Cancelling this for a live-service Suicide Squad game,” replied Reddior D4KEN.

“I'm so glad we got a Suicide Squad game instead of this,” claimed a sarcastic saggynaggy123.

“This animation looks awesome!” said RoboGamer1HD, replying to a tweet linked in the Reddit post.

“We were robbed!” exclaimed MrAnt728.

Of course, while this concept gameplay looks somewhat genuine, it should still be taken with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.

If or when Warner Bros. Games announces a new Batman: Arkham title, we’ll be sure to update you right away.
