The video games we play simply wouldn’t be what they are without their soundtracks.

In so many cases, it’s music that dictates the emotions we feel, whether that’s sadness, joy, tension, or fear.

Hearing a certain soundtrack years after playing a game can transport you back to that very first playthrough, often conjuring up memories of that particular era of your life.

This is all to say that music, particularly music in gaming, can be very powerful, which is why I have a sneaky feeling that the newly announced BAFTA Games in Concert will prove to be very popular.

BAFTA has unveiled a brand new concert experience, which will later be followed by a tour, that's set to feature the music of various BAFTA winners and nominees.

In collaboration with Nibbs Events and Esk, the world premiere of BAFTA Games in Concert will take place at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, in London on Saturday 31 January.

It’ll then be followed by a UK and international tour with additional dates to be confirmed in the near future via the tour’s website.

Tickets for the London date are available now and I sense they’ll fly off the proverbial shelves.

Why? Well, the concert is already confirmed to feature the music of Baldur’s Gate 3, Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture, Assassin’s Creed, Journey, Hitman: Contracts, Cuphead, and Tomb Raider: Legend.

The music will be performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra under the direction of acclaimed composer and conductor Austin Wintory, who is also the genius behind the Journey soundtrack.

Synchronised visuals, gameplay, and imagery will accompany the music, immersing attendees in these wonderful video game worlds.

“Games scores capture the hearts and imaginations of millions across the globe. This concert, and the forthcoming international tour, are a brilliant way to extend the celebration of the BAFTA Games Awards and unite fans, artists, and industry figures,” said BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip.

“We are proud to recognise the exceptional talent of the composers and invite fans to join us in fabulously immersive evenings of games music from this January onwards.”

Composer and conductor of BAFTA Games in Concert, Austin Wintory, added, "It's often stated how solitary composing can be, so it's an utterly thrilling opportunity to gather a big orchestra together, a gaggle of amazing composers and the audience for whom all it's made!”

He continued, “I feel very honoured to have been asked to help put together, and also conduct, this concert celebrating the immense spectrum of games music which has passed through the BAFTA halls the last couple of decades."

Additional special guests are due to be announced as well as extral game soundtracks, both indie and AAA.
