It's about time

A new video that appears to show leaked gameplay of an upcoming Assassin's Creed project has started doing the rounds online.

Assassin's Creed Codename: Jade (a working title) is a new AAA RPG that takes place in ancient China, a setting fans have been desperate to see the series tackle for many years.

While Assassin's Creed Codename: Jade is a mobile title, fans have remarked that the leaked footage actually looks kind of incredible. Apart from appearing to use touch controls, Jade looks like it could easily be a mainline Assassin's Creed adventure.

It's not entirely clear when Ubisoft plans to release Jade. The game was originally announced back in September alongside a number of other Assassin's Creed projects, although we didn't learn very much about any of them apart from their names and settings.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is the next game in the series due to release for consoles. This will be a return to the series' stealth-action roots, offering up a smaller and more focused open world. It's due out 2023.

This will be followed by Assassin's Creed Red and Hexe, which will be released as part of the new Infinity live service hub. Red will take players to feudal Japan, while Hexe is focused on the 16th century witch hunts that swept Europe.

Unconfirmed rumours suggest that Jade is being developed with the help of Tencent, and will allow players to create their very own character - a first for the series. We'll update you on this promising mobile adventure as soon as we know more.
