The design lead behind ARC Raiders has just teased their upcoming “roadmap” for future content, and those who have been clamouring online for the devs to add new maps will doubtlessly be pleased.

The ARC Raiders hype train shows no signs of slowing down any time soon, with the game still averaging somewhere around 330,000 concurrent players every single day on Steam.

Embark Studios has clearly taken the success to heart, because design lead Virgil Watkins has just teased that they have some big plans for the upcoming season of new content in a recent interview with GamesRadar+’s Austin Wood.

Of course, he wasn’t going to give the whole game away early, but there are still a few juicy bits of info in there.

"Sometime soon, I believe we're going to be putting out a chunk of a roadmap for the upcoming months,” Watkins revealed.

“But right now, it's us kind of deciding exactly that cadence, that stuff. And you are correct on the types of content, and we're going to parcel that out across the coming year."

The “types of content” Watkins is referring to here is in regard to GamesRadar+’s comment about new “maps, weapons, objectives, and enemies,” which we all assumed would be the focus of its next content update.

However, Watkins did expand slightly on what Embark Studios’ design philosophy regarding the next wave of content.

“Of course adding a new map has its own novelty, and it's a new place to play and do that. But what else? Thematically, gameplay-wise. How do the enemies and the items and the experiences in that map all point toward something?” Watkins continued.

“It's kind of getting that thematically cohesive stuff together that feels like, 'Oh, guys, the Whatever Update just came out for Arc Raiders. Let's go check that out.' That's what we're trying to template out for the coming months.”

I find that last bit pretty interesting, personally. It sort of sounds like Watkins is more than implying that there will be some kind of link between each new content update, almost as if the game is slowly building towards some kind of event or overarching narrative.

Either way, it sounds like new maps are at the forefront of Embark Studios’ mind when it comes to their content plans. Curious to see how this is all going to tie together in the future, and whether or not the game continues to retain the impressive playcount numbers as a result.
