Animal Crossing Meets Stardew Valley in Charming RPG, Early Access Released

One for those cold, winter nights

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is getting its next major update next year but in the meantime there are plenty of other cosy games to play instead, many of which can be found on Steam.

Jumping straight in, today we’ll be talking about Everdream Village which sounds pleasant but the reviews are more mixed than you’d expect…

Everdream Village is pretty transparent with its inspiration as while very few games have reached the heights of Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley it doesn’t stop them from trying, nor should it.

You can find Everdream Valley on Steam and its description invites players to “build your ideal, cozy farm in a living village".

It adds: "Form bonds with fellow villagers to lend a hand as you grow crops, care for animals, and craft a corner of paradise. Sail across enchanted islands to discover new resources and adventures along the way.”

Like Stardew Valley the core gameplay is split into farming life and social life, but it’s a little more open-world than you’d typically expect which is nice.

Visually I don’t think it’s much to look at. It doesn’t look bad but it doesn’t look great either; though it’s the gameplay itself that seems to have disappointed some of its players.

Right now Everdream Village is sitting on a Mixed rating, with only 56 reviews mind you so that could improve if it gets more players.

So what’s being said about it? Customisation is a big complaint at the moment as it’s extremely limited, meaning you can’t express yourself in the way you’d probably like to in a game like this.

Others claim the game has been released too early, as while it’s technically in Early Access and will be updated over time many have reported that it’s far too buggy to be playable at points, and would have benefitted from a bit more time in development before letting players have a go.

It’s not all negative though as there are plenty of players who have been having a good time with it.

Many have acknowledged the game’s flaws but still complimented it for being a largely impressive game despite being so new.

If you fancy giving it a go you can do so on Steam right now but you will have to pay for it.

At the time of writing there’s no free demo to speak of, which would have been nice given how many negative reviews its received so far.

Happy gaming!
