To be a cosy gamer is to go through phases as you evolve from one obsession to the next.

For many of us, that current obsession is most likely the excellent Pokémon Pokopia.

Yet again, I found myself playing well past midnight last night. It really is moreish.

Over the years though, Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and many more have all had that sort of hold over us.

Last year, you may have been drawn in by the excellent Hello Kitty: Island Adventure which finally landed on consoles after previously launching on mobile the year prior.

The game sees the player hop on a jet with Hello Kitty and her Sanrio friends as they set about restoring a rundown tropical island.

GAMINGbible awarded the game a score of eight, writing, “If there’s anything about cosy gaming that appeals to you, Hello Kitty: Island Adventure should undoubtedly be high on your to-play list.”

We continued, “Developer Sunblink, in partnership with Sanrio, may have built a game on the foundations of those that have come before in the genre, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that the end result is a sunshine-filled tonic that’s sure to delight every single player who consumes it.”

You may have since moved on from the game, as I have, but Sunblink has just given players every reason to return.

A major new expansion is on the way next month in the form of City Town which is coming to Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC on 16 April.

City Town Adds Over 30 Hours of Content to Hello Kitty: Island Adventure

City Town, unsurprisingly, adds a major new city region packed to the rafters with content.

In fact, it’s estimated that the DLC adds over 30 hours of content and that includes a whopping 90 quests.

There are new buildings to explore, new Sanrio friends to encounter, plus new visitors.

One of those new Sanrio characters is U*SA*HA*NA who’ll essentially guide you through the DLC.

As with all Sanrio characters, you can develop your relationship with U*SA*HA*NA to unlock new perks, benefits, and rewards.

In City Town, players will need to renovate their own cafe where you can cook up some delicious new snacks and drinks for your visitors and friends.

There are also new shops - seven venues in total - offering a range of new goods including plushies.

One shot in the trailer even shows a glimpse of an arcade with playable games.

As for your visitors, this time, you’ll be housing them in apartments rather than cosy little beach huts.

Much like in the base game, players will be able to decorate apartments to tailor them to their guests’ needs.

Visiting characters includes the likes of Pannya-chan, Buppyu-kun and a “mysterious” cameoing guest.

While nothing is going to truly defeat Pokémon Pokopia for quite some time, City Town could have some of us cosy gamers finding ourselves needing to split our time a tad better.

The City Town DLC lacks pricing for now but Hello Kitty: Island Adventure’s former DLC retailed for $14.99, so it’s expected that this successor may be in line with that.
