Amouranth Just Spent $4 Million On A Bizarre Career Change

It's a gas

Controversial Twitch streamer Kaitlyn ‘Amouranth’ Siragusa has done many things to shock the internet over the last year or so. Her hot tub and ASMR streams pushed Twitch’s guidelines on explicit content to their absolute breaking point (and often simply broke them). But she’s now announced a career shift that I’m not sure any of us saw coming.

Dear reader, it seems Amouranth has used her impressive income to purchase a gas station - for $4 million, no less. It is, undoubtedly, an unexpected change for the streamer.

Before we move on, take a look at some of the best livestream wins and fails below.

Why has Amouranth bought a gas station? I’m going to assume that’s the first question you have, because it’s the first question I had. Amouranth is, after all, a highly successful streamer in her own right, with a dedicated following on Twitch, Twitter, and YouTube. She didn’t need to buy a gas station, in other words.

According to Amouranth herself, she absolutely doesn’t intend to run it herself (although that’s a sitcom I’d watch). Instead, she’s leasing it to a publicly traded company which will turn it into a Circle K (a Canadian convenience store chain).

On Twitter, the streamer went into more detail on the reasoning behind this investment. She confirmed that she’d actually put a ton of thought into the purchase, and even went so far as to show her working. Honestly, much of it has gone over my head. Probably a good thing I don’t intend to buy a gas station.

“Newly built gas station in major metropolitan area. 100,000 Cars pass by daily. Listed for $4,000,000. I invest $1,000,000 and borrow the rest ($3,000,000) easy so far right?” she explained. “Now since we bought this gas station, and in accordance with applicable laws (and/once structured correctly), I will take an accelerated depreciation charge of approximately $3m.”

In essence, she’ll owe $110,000 less in taxes, while the gas station itself generates $85,000 annually. In a few years time, she’ll sell it on for a higher price and put the profit from that sale into another property. That’s the idea, anyway. We’ll have to wait and see how it all works out.
