A Blair Witch TV show is in the works and it'll serve as a direct sequel to the original film.

The Blair Witch Project has a certain level of notoriety. Even if you haven’t seen it, which I confess I have not, you’ll likely know the general gist of the plot. For well over two decades now, the found-footage horror has terrified viewers. Growing up, watching The Blair Witch Project as a teenager felt like a rite of passage.

If you don’t know what the film is about, allow me to spook you out and ruin your day. The Blair Witch Project follows the adventures of three student filmmakers who venture off into the woods to create a documentary about a local mythical figure, the Blair Witch. The three teens go missing and what we see as the viewer, is essentially what they recorded for the documentary. Spoiler alert: There may be some truth in the myth.

If you're yet to check out the film, take a look at the trailer below .. if you dare.

Well, if you’re itching for more Blair Witch content, I have some good news for you. A Blair Witch TV show is currently in development and it’s being made by the original film’s director Eduardo Sanchez. As reported by Dexerto, Sanchez is hoping to team up with Jed Shepherd - producer and co-writer of Host - to create the series which they claim will serve as a direct sequel.

The Blair Witch Project has actually had two sequels, Book of Shadows and Blair Witch. The latter of those is definitely the stronger project although neither went down as well as the original film. Despite the fact that there are two sequels, we still don’t know for sure who the Blair Witch is. Is it a witch-like figure? Are Burkittsville’s residents behind the gruesome happenings? Is Rustin Parr somehow involved?

On the Trip to the Movies podcast, Shepard explained, ““We’ve talked a few times about this and again it depends on schedules and rights and things, but [Sanchez] has for the longest time wanted to do a Blair Witch TV show. [...] He has told me what the first – well the pilot episode – would be, and when he was telling me, I was almost in tears because it was just everything. It was so good. It starts the second The Blair Witch Project ends, and he’s already spoken to one main person [for] casting, and it’s one of the biggest stars around. And they want to do it. So if we just get our act together and then the people let us have the rights we’ll make this amazing TV show with a very big star.” I imagine this news will excite a lot of people.
