Marvel’s Spider-Man on PlayStation 4 was a runaway success in 2018, bringing gamers their most comprehensive rendition of the superhero since Spider-Man 2 on the PS2, Gamecube and original Xbox. A follow up, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, launched alongside the PS5, and in 2023 the full sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, arrived with even more features, action, and Spidey things to do.

If you’ve yet to take the plunge and fancy commemorating the occasion with a souped-up Collector’s Edition, now’s the time to swing into action. On the Sony store, you can currency pick up the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Collector's Edition on PlayStation 5 for £149.99, down from £219.99.

Along with a digital download code for the game, the Collector’s Edition includes a 19-inch statue of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales in their spider suits along with the iconic Venom. You’ll also receive download codes for all of the pre-order bonuses that were available at launch, as well as 10 additional suits for Peter and Miles to wear.

Developed by Insomniac Games, famous for creating characters like Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet and Clank, Spider-Man 2 follows both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they team up in an expansive open-world rendition of New York. You’re free to switch between the two Spider-Men while you’re out exploring, with each having slightly different twists on the typical Spidey setup.

Peter has picked up the Symbiote — better known as Venom — and as such has a more violent and aggressive style than he did in the previous game, while Miles is more acrobatic and comes with unique electrical powers alongside his web-slinging ones.

For both Spider-Men, the gameplay consists of swinging around the city, acrobatically knocking seven shades of silly out of various goons and henchmen, taking on various villains from Spider-Man’s repertoire, and uncovering the mysteries surrounding Harry Osborn, the Symbiote, and more. If you’ve ever fantasised about being Spider-Man, this is as close as you’ll get.

At Amazon the game itself has a 4.8 out of 5 average rating, indicating overwhelmingly positive responses from the vast majority of customers. “The graphics and character models have slightly improved from its predecessor,” said one five-star review. “The web swinging and combat have improved and expanded with new animations and abilities and the game is filled with hours of side content.”

“Loved the first one and this is even better,” said another. “Great story and fun side missions for hours and hours of enjoyment.” Another added: “Really enjoyed playing this from start to finish. Some repetition along the way but to be expected really if you want a game to last more than a few hours.”

Some customers felt there wasn’t enough variety in the gameplay for their tastes: “The game is by no means bad but it also gets dull very quickly. The boss battles are recycled over and over again and feel endless at points.”

Others were disappointed that the main story and side missions didn’t take longer to complete: “It took me about 15 hours…The game felt so short that Spiderman: Miles Morales actually felt longer than this game.”

If Star Wars is more to your tastes than Spidey, the new Star Wars Outlaws is just £39 at Game right now. For those who’d rather play with friends, EA Sports FC 25 is just £41 at Currys.

But for a killer deal on rare collector's edition, be sure to check out the PS5 discount on Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
