It’s a rumour circulating throughout the gaming sphere that Rockstar Games is remastering GTA IV for release some time this year.
While we would have hoped to have an announcement by now, every few days someone reports on the existence of the game, saying that Rockstar Games is busy working on it, probably with a third party as they finish off GTA VI.
It makes sense to do this now, perhaps with a shadow drop like we saw with Bethesda and Oblivion Remastered, because it would keep fans ticking over until the blockbuster release of GTA VI.
With the rumour focused on the game making an appearance on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, fans are hesitantly excited.

Over on Reddit, when news broke, fans of the GTA series jumped in to express their joy.
“They knew we would need something to tide us over. Enhanced HD graphics, or we riot, exclaimed a GTA fan in the replies.
“Would be nice to see Liberty City at a higher resolution than the original 360 copy. It runs at 60fps on my Xbox but looks so damn blurry on a 4k TV,” said one Redditor.
This instalment in the franchise is often seen as the darkest of them all, with perhaps the most divisive central protagonist.

“GTA IV is a good title, and it deserved this,” said another.
It’s also one of the most beloved entries, and the story captivated millions upon release with its tale of an immigrant working through a life of crime to chase the American dream.
It’s clear what the game means to people, as one Redditor said, “God pleaseee, GTA 4 is my number 1 favourite game of all time and one thing I always wished is that it finally gets treated right.”
Will it appear this year? We’ll have to wait and see, but it’s clear that it would please most to play through the game again.
