GTA 6 beta downloads scam shut down by Twitch

Don't fall for this GTA 6 scam!

We’d all love to play Grand Theft Auto VI early, right? Of course, we do. Yet, that enthusiasm to play Rockstar Games’ next big release may land you in trouble if not careful.

Rockstar Games announced that it was first working on GTA VI back in February 2022. However, if rumours are to be believed, GTA VI may have actually been in development for nearly 10 years.

Check out our GTA VI news round-up video below!

Unfortunately, ever since the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series was announced to be in development, we’ve had no substantial updates from Rockstar Games. It’s the reason why we’ve had to make do with an endless stream of rumours, not to mention those infamous gameplay leaks that appear to be from a very early build.

To capitalise on fans' eagerness to play GTA VI, a Twitch account that posed as being the official Rockstar Games channel claimed to offer viewers free access to an early beta. Of course, there is no beta and this account was a scam trying to entice viewers to click on fraudulent links.

Oddly enough, this Twitch account was apparently a Twitch partner which offered an illusion of validity. I suppose it’s possible that this Twitch account may have been hacked, but that’s just a guess on my part. Reportedly, once a link was clicked, it asked viewers to log into their Steam account, providing the no-gooders access to all your games and details.

Thankfully, that Twitch account has been banned. That being said, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that clone accounts won’t return, so please be vigilant just in case.

At this time, Rockstar Games hasn't announced a release date for GTA VI and we’ve not even been treated to its first gameplay trailer. If other rumours are to be believed, GTA VI will be released sometime between 2024 to 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
