GTA 6 developer update confirms what many of us feared

How long has GTA 6 been in development?

It’s another day which means it’s another round of GTA VI news and rumours, but this time, it’s about confirmation of previous speculation.

At this time we have no official idea as to when the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series will be released. Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive has suggested that GTA VI will be released sometime between 2024 and 2025. However, a more recent rumour claims that Rockstar Games will be making a major announcement later this month. I guess, only time will tell.

Check out the GTA V trailer below!

Back in September 2022, reports were making the rounds that GTA VI had been rebooted several times, what’s more, it is also claimed that the next entry in the series was actually rebooted during the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2. This is particularly interesting when you consider that RDR2 was released in 2018 and in February 2022, Rockstar Games announced the development of GTA VI around four years later.

Yet, it seems that the development cycle of GTA VI might extend far beyond 2018, that’s at least according to an ex-developer who had worked on the game. According to the LinkedIn profile of Jon Young, he claims to have worked on the game between 2015 to 2018 as a lead video editor. If true, it could mean that GTA VI could actually have been in development two years after the release of GTA V in 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360.

It’s quite baffling to think that Grand Theft Auto VI may have been in development for nearly a decade. That being said, it’s common knowledge that Rockstar Games likes to take its time developing games and to be fair, it has reaped the rewards of that dedication and patience.

What’s more, video game technology has changed a lot since 2013, so it stands to reason that GTA VI would need to be running on the most up-to-date software and hardware possible.

It is believed that Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
