Video games are pretty damn expensive and as much as I hate to be the bearer of bad news, things are only going to get worse from here.

Luckily, Steam understands this by regularly dropping hundreds of free releases that PC gamers can try out at any time.

So to celebrate this, I have put together a list of ten free games you can try right now and this selection has something for everyone.

First up is Dynasty Warriors: Origins, a hack-and-slash war-based game which is set to release fully on 17 January.

However, players can try it out right now courtesy of Steam and the demo gives access to the Battle of Sishui Gate.

Here you will experience your first battle as you take on large forces and powerful enemies on exhilarating battlegrounds.

More amazingly, you will get to experience combat as 1v1000.

Next is Harvest Village if you are looking for something a bit more chilled out.

This resource management game is set during Medieval times and tasks the player with gathering resources and crafting a paradise.

In this mini city building game, you must complete various quests, craft important items and upgrade your buildings in order to become the best miner, cook and toolmaker in the town.

Fans of Among Us and Lethal Company should check out Black Pine: Incident Response.

This 4-player online co-op horror survival game where you and your friends take on the role of hired contractors tasked with exploring the Appalachian Mountains.

However, taking on much-needed repairs is a lot more dangerous when monstrous creatures lurk in the dark.

If you are in the mood for a RPG, then I have you covered with Philna Fantasy.

This pixel-art style action RPG features exciting storylines, different career paths and a cute style, not to mention some epic battles.

Explore the world through puzzles and battles as you face the shadows invading the continent of Volant.

Dark-fantasy lovers will love Dungeons Deep, an ARPG which will see you explore vast underworlds full to the brim of horrifying creatures and ancient treasures.

This nonlinear dungeon crawler will see you battle orcs, goblins, demons and more as you follow the journey of the soldiers and mercenaries returning to the cursed kingdom of Antioch.

Fans of Journey and Gris should try Nightscape, an atmospheric adventure game which follows the story of a young girl named Layla and her goat friend.

In a world where the stars have fallen to earth, you will need to wield stellar powers as you explore an ancient Arabian land in order to help Layla return the stars to the sky and find her missing father.

Fan of 2021’s Lake? Then you would love Brass.

This interactive adventure will see you take on the role of Brass who must deliver letters and packages to nearby villagers.

However, Brass’ journey begins for real when he receives a letter from his grandmother which sets him off on an exciting and heartwarming adventure.

Into the Grid is for the Cyberpunk 2077 fans as this roguelike deck builder will see you become a master hacker.

Whilst in cyberspace, you will need to fight evil corporations, build and upgrade a deck of powerful programmes and unleash digital hell on your enemies.

There is another adventure to be had in Isle of Reveries, a pixel-art fantasy story which will see you take on a pilgrimage skybound to the mysterious isle.

On your journey, you will battle through mysterious dungeons, solve tough puzzles and fight dangerous enemies and all whilst appreciating a retro-style title.

Last but not least is Acts of Blood, a beat ‘em up title which focuses on fast-paced, brutal hand-to-hand combat in the dystopian city of Bandung, Indonesia.

You will follow the story of Hendra whose life is torn apart after his family is slain by his father’s business rival.

Now left to seek justice, Hendra must take revenge into his own hands in order to make the killer’s pay.
