PlayStation Plus' next free game is one of 2023's best releases

2023 was an incredible year for video games, to the extent that I'm actually still trying to make my way through some of the best games from last year before I can start on this year.

From a brand-new Zelda adventure to Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Sea Of Stars, 2023 was a killer year. And it just so happens that one of the new games coming to PlayStation Plus this month is one of my favourite 2023 releases, and a game I'd urge you not to miss.

While Dave The Diver sadly didn't end up on the GAMINGbible teams' best games of 2023 list, I can tell you it just missed the cut. I also gave the game a very respectable 8/10 score when I reviewed it for Nintendo Switch.

This wonderful gem of a game is officially making its way to the PlayStation Plus Extra library from 16 April, and I would beg you not to sleep on it.

Dave The Diver is charm personified. The game sees you take charge of a struggling sushi restaurant where you're expected to dive for ingredients and explore underwater during the day before opening the restaurant at night to serve customers. There are elements of Cooking Mama, Stardew Valley, Metroid, and even business tycoon games as you work to grow your fishy empire.

There are so many different elements in Dave The Diver that you'd expect it to be an unfocused mess, but it somehow comes together to form a satisfying and cohesive whole.

As I wrote in my review at the time: "The game continues to introduce new features and mysteries as you progress, bringing in useful tools like a fish farm, and a much deeper story that gradually reveals itself over the course of the adventure.

"There are also various side missions and activities to engage with, like photo missions and aquatic preservation jobs which, hilariously, usually amount to you going into the water and shooting a specific number of fish."

So, basically, go play Dave The Diver on PlayStation Plus when it lands 16 April. Cool? Cool.
