10 underrated RPGs free for PlayStation users right now

With new games being added to the PlayStation Plus library each month, it is easy to forget some of the underrated gems that are added without as much fanfare.

However, there is no better feeling than discovering said underrated gems and so this list consists of ten RPGs that are currently free to download for PlayStation Plus members.

So if you are on the hunt for story-driven narratives, survival horrors, multiplayer adventures, and more, you are bound to find something for you in this list.

First up is Circus Electrique, a story-driven RPG combining strategy and management techniques all set in a steampunk universe.

When members of London soon start turning into vicious killers, it is up to the various circus performers to use their skills to put an end to their rampage.

Available for free for PlayStation Extra members.

Fans of survival horror can check out Fade to Silence which is available on Extra right now.

Black Forest Games

This open-world survival game is available for either solo or co-op play and is set in a post-apocalyptic world frozen in an eternal winter.

Players must navigate a merciless landscape and survive against a corrupted world as nature itself has made Eldritch-style horrors come to life.

On the topic of playing with friends, you can also team up with others for For the King.

This strategic RPG blends tabletop and roguelike elements to create an epic adventure that spans across multiple realms.

Taking place after the death of the king, it is up to you to brave the elements, fight wicked creatures and set sail across the sea in order to bring peace to the kingdom of Fahrul.

Fans of the noir genre should check out Tails Noir, a narrative adventure where you will take on the role of a racoon detective and private eye Howard Lotor.

It will be your job to explore a dystopian Vancouver inhabited by fellow animals as you uncover a story that explores themes of change and transformation.

Cyberpunk 2077 fans are in luck as The Ascent is now free for PS Plus Extra subscribers.

Set in a cyberpunk world, players can go it alone or team up with friends to navigate a world after the fall of The Ascent Group, a mega corporation who once owned you and everyone you know but has now collapsed.

However, you will soon learn that living without the corporation may be harder than living with it.

Now time for an epic action RPG in the form of The Surge.

Again, we are in a world run by a mega corporation but this one is known as CREO and it is their goal to save the world.

However, when you are knocked out on your first day on the job, you soon find yourself waking up in a heavy-grade exoskeleton and now you find yourself with a much bigger job than you started with.

Described as a “sci-fi Souls game”, you won’t want to miss out on this one.

Now for another RPG but this one is inspired by some of the classics of the genre.

It is Battle Chasers: Nightwar, a turn-based combat RPG which also features deep dungeon diving, and a rich story driven by exploration of the lore-filled world.

With beautiful randomly-generated dungeons full to the brim with secrets, loot, puzzles, and more, you will need to use each hero’s unique abilities to survive if you wish to stand up against the many bosses who will do everything in their power to stop you.

Another action RPG and this time it is the ultimate version of Atlas Fallen.

Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand is a solo and co-op action RPG where you will ride the sands of a timeless land and defeat legendary monsters.

If you are a fan of the Monster Hunter franchise, you will love this one.

Sitting at an ‘overwhelmingly positive’ rating on Steam, Rain World is an atmospheric survival RPG where you will take on the role of a nomadic slugcat who is both predator and prey in a broken ecosystem.

As you navigate through industrial waste, you will need to defend yourself and hunt enough food in order to survive but you will soon discover that hunger is not your biggest enemy.

Last but not least is Magicka 2, the next chapter in the Magicka series and often described as the “world’s most irreverent co-op action adventure”.

With friends, groups will need to ascend from the ruins of Aldrheim in order to experience a world almost wiped of its magic following the Wizard Wars.
