I never thought I’d be so delighted to review a keyboard, yet here we are. Despite previously assuming that all keyboards are made equal, I’ve since had to reassess my ignorance. In my defence, I’ve never been a PC gamer. For better or worse, I’ve primarily played on consoles. As for when I’m writing, as long as my keyboard functions as it should do, I haven’t given it much thought.
My MacBook Pro’s keyboard has served me well, but it lacks the clacky sound I adore. Like the symphony of typewriter keys that used to fill offices, I enjoy hearing the strike of every key. My colleagues likely feel differently, which is why I don’t take my external keyboard into the office with me.
I’m happy to report that the Glorious GMMK 3 HE Pro Prebuilt Keyboard makes a delightful clack with every key I press. What makes its sound so endearing, at least for me, is that I can alter it. Even though this is a prebuilt keyboard, you can still customise it just like you would if you designed it every step of the way. Fortunately, however, it’ll cost you considerably less to purchase a prebuilt model, with the GMMK 3 HE Pro retailing at £269.99. That price is for the 75 percent keyboard size, meaning prices will vary depending on what you select.

For the ultimate gaming experience, you need the GMMK 3 HE Pro Keyboard
The GMMK 3 HE Prebuilt promises an “elevated typing experience”, and on that front it most definitely delivers. I haven’t tinkered around with the swappable switches too much yet, but I did some minor adjustments to test out the different acoustics of the keyboard. When it arrived, the Glorious HE Fox switches were the default choice. Fortunately for the curious among you, samples for the other options are included too. Although you don’t have enough pieces of each type to swap out all the switches of the board, the samples will give you an idea of the different sounds your GMMK 3 HE Pro can make. Some are quieter, while others offer a resounding click. You can even get silent switches if you live by the mantra “silence is golden”.
As well as being able to swap your switches, you can also change the keycaps. This might not be a novelty for you, but it has been for me. I once feared changing the keycaps, concerned that I’d somehow be too heavy-handed and break my keyboard. My hands may be small, but they are clumsy. However, once I saw the beauty of the GPBT Comic Boom limited edition set, I knew I needed to face my fears. Even now, I just gaze lovingly at my GMMK 3 HE Pro, admiring how much it looks like a comic book page has vomited all over my keyboard (in a good way).

Despite hardly using my GMMK 3 HE Pro for gaming purposes, I’m still impressed by the reactivity of the keys. I don’t need to strike with force for the keyboard to register what I’m typing; it’s a fluid, instantaneous movement. Rapid triggers are the key here (no pun intended). They immediately reset after you click, ensuring that your keyboard is ready when you are. Ideally suited to when you have to button mash, I can’t think of a better keyboard for such an occasion as this one.
Not to sound like Xbox here, but your GMMK3 HE Pro Keyboard can be whatever you want it to be. Unless you want it to be a boat, then you’ll be thoroughly disappointed, and minus a keyboard. The way in which you can tailor your keyboard to your needs and aesthetic allows for a range of creativity I’ve yet to see rivalled. Even if you choose to go for a prebuilt option like I have, you can tinker to your heart’s content if you wish to. You can get cheaper alternatives, but you’ll soon be looking for something with longevity. It’s then that you’ll see the error of your ways and welcome the GMMK 3 Pro as an integral part of your gaming setup.
