'Stalker 2' Has Been Delayed By Nearly A Year

Better late than never, that's how the saying goes, right?

STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl has been delayed by almost a whole year as studio GSC Game World aims to properly polish the title to a sheen so that it meets its own standards of quality and the expectations of the players.

Recently, the team behind STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl received some criticism for the proposed "metaverse" that would exist alongside the game and allow players to explore it as an NFT in the form of an NPC. Yeah, most were as enthused as you are for that prospect. Also, it's just strange to think, "yeah our customers will definitely buy a slice of a simulated radioactive exclusion zone." Today, the real Chernobyl exclusion zones are safe to visit however visitors' radioactivity levels must be recorded when entering and exiting the zone. At least you get a cool trip to Chernobyl out of that.

Anyway. A seven month delay is a hefty one, yet fans have been supportive towards the decision. “Those additional seven months of development are needed to fulfill our vision and achieve the desired state of the game,” said the studio in an announcement on its social channels. “STALKER 2 is the biggest project in the history of GSC, and it requires thorough testing and polishing. We are convinced that development should take as long as necessary, especially in the case of such a project."

Surely that's a sentiment that plenty of people will agree with, given the certain catastrophes that certain games have had when they've needed a little more time in the oven. In unrelated news, some Battlefield 2042 players are finding that they're eligible for refunds even though the purchase hasn't met the standard conditions for a refund. Which says something.

“This decision is not an easy one, but we are doing the best possible to deliver you a game that can live up to your expectations,” continued GSC Game World. “With more information, updates and showcases coming, we have an exciting and important year ahead. Thank you for your patience and understanding.” The new release date for PC and Xbox Series X is December 8th, 2022, which is a barren month for the time being though it's a given that it will fill up with exciting releases before we know it.
