We all know what it is like upon unpacking a brand-new console. Where do I put the damn thing? As a way of helping out with that question, Microsoft has revealed some top tips for the ultimate placement for the Xbox Series X.

The Xbox Series X is a popular console but it is also quite a big console and finding room for it under your television can prove to be quite the challenge. With most of it tempted to ram it in the smallest gap just so we can get on with gaming, Microsoft surprisingly warns against this. However, it revealed some tips for the best setup for our little babies.

Check out the Xbox Series S below!

Whether you have the Xbox Series X or its smaller sibling, the Xbox Series S, Microsoft claims that each console should be placed on a stable surface, be kept away from being placed on speakers and subwoofers and be operated in a “well-ventilated, relatively cool place away from direct heat sources”.

Additionally, the area around the console should be uncluttered and objects should not be placed upon or next to it. This is all to prevent the vents from being blocked, ultimately leading to overheating and lowering your Xbox’s lifespan.

As for the Xbox Series X specifically, it can be placed either horizontally or vertically with a minimum of 4-6 inches of space on either side. Furthermore, do not place your console in an enclosed cabinet.

As for the Xbox Series X’s HDMI cable, the included Ultra High Speed cable supports HDMI 2.1 features, including 4K gaming at 120Hz but at only 2-metres, your console should be kept relatively close to your television. If this is not possible, you can purchase a longer cable. However, this could affect video quality according to Microsoft.

Despite the current-gen of consoles already seemingly entering the latter stages of their lifespans, it is still important to keep them going. So no shoving them in cupboards anymore!
