Xbox Series X gamers realise they've been downloading games the wrong way

The Xbox Series X may have been on the market for almost 4 years but according to one user, some of us may have been downloading games the wrong way all this time.

The Xbox Series X was released back in November 2020 and has gone on to become one of the most powerful consoles of all time.

Offering banger exclusives such as Forza Horizon 5, Microsoft Flight Simulator and the upcoming Avowed, the Series X has firmly made a name for itself for console fans.

However, according to a recent post on r/XboxSeriesX, a simple setting could mean that downloading games could become a whole lot easier.

“Xbox Series X does not prefer 5GHz over 2.4GHz WiFi,” the post reads.

“My scenario is that my UniFi UAP-AC broadcasts both 2.4GHz and 5GHz with the exact same SSID.

Rather than having one SSID for 2.4GHz and another different SSID for 5GHz, like some pre-configured ISP routers have.

To me it's unclear at the time of joining the network if I am joining a 2.4 or 5GHz wireless network and it's entirely up to the client device to select 1 over the other.”

If your reaction was the same as mine upon seeing all these numbers and phrases, quite simply, the Xbox Series X will favour one WiFi connection over another unless the settings are manually changed.

Luckily, one comment had a simple solution to prevent this from happening.

“You could go into your router and change the SSID name of either the 2.4ghz or 5ghz network,” it read.

This will then cause both networks to appear on your wireless devices which will allow you to choose which one you want rather than have it automatically connect.

Additionally, enabling band steering will encourage all devices to connect to the 5ghz network depending on signal strength.

This is just one of many features people are discovering on their Xbox Series X after all this time so it remains to be seen what else the Microsoft console has to offer.
