Xbox Live And PlayStation Network 'Not Working', Half The Internet 'Goes Down'

Issues are affecting many online businesses

It appears that a large outage of online servers is currently ongoing, with many online services going down.

Internet users hoping to hop on to their favourite apps and websites this morning may have been met with bugs and errors as a result of a wide server outage with Amazon Web Services.

Amazon Web Services provides cloud computing infrastructure to many online platforms, with Snapchat, Roblox, Fortnite, and Canva using the services to run their products.

Xbox Live and PlayStation Network appear to have also been affected as a result, with tracking website Down Detector showing outages across both platforms earlier this morning.

The issues appeared to begin around 8AM BST, and has continued as the morning went on. However, some services appear to already be returning.

For example, Xbox Live and PlayStation Network are up for us at the minute, though according to Down Detector and users on social media, the services still appear to be inaccessible for some.

So, this could be a case of services slowly returning in stages. If you're affected by the outage, it may be best to just remain patient and adjust your expectations accordingly.

"So here's what's going on, Canva is down, Rate My Professor is down, Fortnite is down, Duolingo is down, Snapchat is down, Rocket League is down, Robinhood is down, Max is down, Xbox is down, and Steam is down ALOT OF S*** IS DOWN WTF IS GOING ON," writes one user on X (formerly Twitter).

Other users have also claimed they're having difficulty accessing various gaming platforms and services. In addition to Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, it appears that Steam, Roblox, Fortnite, Epic Games, EA, and Ubisoft have also been affected.

"We are investigating increased error rates and latencies for multiple AWS services in the US-EAST-1 Region," read the AWS service status page at just after midnight PDT.

This indicates that the issue is localised to that area, and why UK and European users may still be able to access these various services.

The latest update reads that Amazon appears to have "identified a potential root cause for error rates for the DynamoDB APIs" and that the issue "related to DNS resolution of the DynamoDB API endpoint in US-EAST-1".

A fix for the issues is already in the works though, as Amazon continues the message by explaining it is working on "multiple parallel paths to accelerate recovery".
