The 'Halo' TV Series Just Got Its First Trailer

At long last, we’ve gotten a teaser trailer for the upcoming Halo TV show from Paramount Pictures in Microsoft’s celebrations of 20 years of Xbox. 

Like numerous other projects, most notably the Uncharted film, the Halo TV show has been through the wringer. The adaptation was originally laid out for a release in 2015 with Steven Spielberg as a producer, then Showtime gave the reins to Rupert Wyatt for a release in 2019. This then was pushed to 2020 as a result of the pandemic, and Wyatt stepped away from the show to be replaced with Otto Bathurst for a 2022 release. Got that? Great.

While also boasting a name that sounds like a cartoon villain, Bathurst was nominated for a BAFTA for his contributions to Criminal Justice and Five Days, and won the BAFTA for best director for Peaky Blinders back in 2014. So, the Halo show is in safe hands.

Yes, it’s a teeny tiny trailer but it shows off close-up shots of Master Chief’s Mjolnir armor and a greeting from Cortana. It’s all feeling very real and happening now. Pablo Schreiber, who you’ll know from Orange Is the New Black and American Gods, is playing John-117 in the show. And, for Cortana, Jen Taylor is reprising her role from the games which is awesome and she’s playing Dr. Catherine Halsey. 

Captain Jacob Keyes, who appeared in Halo Reach and Halo: Combat Evolved, will be played by Danny Sapani and his daughter Dr Miranda Keyes will be played by Olive Gray. In addition, there are two new characters entering stage left — Quan Ah who is a “shrewd, audacious 16-year-old from the Outer Colonies,” and Makee who is a human who was adopted by the Covenant after she was orphaned. They’re played by Yerin Ha and Charlie Murphy respectively. 

Oh, and if you’re waiting for that iconic voice to emerge from Master Chief’s helmet, I wouldn’t hold your breath. "I don't do impressions, I play characters," said Schreiber in response to a fan who asked him to “nail down” the character’s tone. "While everyone knows the Master Chief, this show is an opportunity for all of us to get to know John. Thank you for your kind words.”
