Xbox drops free download for game that isn't even out yet

Xbox is pulling out all the stops for one of its upcoming games and that includes releasing a free download before it has even been released. Not bad, ey?

Posted yesterday on the official Avowed Twitter account, a free Dynamic Background is now free to download on the Xbox Series X/S consoles ahead of the game’s official release. The background which shows the beautiful game art complete with colourful skeleton and billowing cloak is an excellent way to get fans even more hyped for the upcoming action RPG.

Avowed is perhaps one of the most anticipated RPGs of 2024 and set in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity, it follows the story of an envoy of Aedyr who is sent to investigate rumours of a plague spreading across the Living Lands. However, it is not long before you realise that the plague is just one thing you have to deal with as the world is overtaken by secrets, danger and an untamed wilderness.

After discovering your own personal connection to the Living Lands, you soon feel the call of the land and it is begging for help. “Can you save this unknown frontier and your soul from the forces threatening to tear them asunder?” reads the official synopsis.

Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, it is no surprise that Avowed is full to the brim with content including islands each with their own ecosystems, an abundance of weapons, spells and guns to master and even companions to fight by your side. Whether you turn to your grimoire to learn defensive or combative spells or mould your companions to best fight alongside you, how you tackle this RPG is entirely up to you.

Avowed is scheduled to be released in Q3/Q4 of 2024 for PC and Xbox Series X/S. The Dynamic Background is free to download on Xbox consoles now.
