The Witcher: Project Sirius open world confirmed in job listing

It looks like The Witcher: Project Sirius is going open world.

Based on the novels from Andrzej Sapkowski, CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher franchise is considered to be one of the best RPG franchises of all time. Well, at least with 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

On aggregate websites such as Metacritic, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt scored well into the 90s, earning itself the accolade of ‘Must-Play’. In the years that followed, The Witcher 3 was made into an even better game thanks to its free new-gen upgrade. Though it did also receive a realistic nudity update by accident, apparently.

In October 2022, CD Projekt announced that it had multiple new games in the works with not only a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 but also a brand new Witcher trilogy as well as a new Witcher multiplayer title and more. The latter of which is the topic of today’s discussion.

While details on the Witcher multiplayer title are vague at this time, previous job listings posted by CD Projekt hinted that it might not only feature co-op but also PvE. On that basis, it’s fair to say that the Witcher multiplayer game has divided some fans. However, as reported by Game Rant, new details have emerged, courtesy of a new job listing that this multiplayer game, codenamed Project Sirius will feature an open world.

In collaboration with series developers CD Projekt RED, Project Sirius will be developed by The Molasses Flood (The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow), it is said that this multiplayer game set in the Witcher universe will have a “Slavic open world.”

The job listing in question is for a senior or principal level designer and requires the would-be applicant to help “create gameplay rich and environmental story-dense spaces for our next title,” as well as “drive the creation of spaces set in the Slavic open world of The Witcher that support telling the story of this world while supporting a rich palette of gameplay systems.” What’s more, it’s also required for the potential recruit to have “experience building for multiplayer”.

At this time, the Witcher multiplayer game does not have a release date, but it might be safe to assume that it will be released on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It’s also likely that its release could be a couple of years away at least.
