Twitch streamer Emiru has said she won’t be returning to TwitchCon following an assault by a fan.

In case you missed it Emiru was in attendance at this year’s TwitchCon and was doing a meet-and-greet with her fans, when one fan cut through the line and grabbed hold of the streamer, attempting to kiss her.

The man was quickly shoved away by security but despite Twitch’s claims that security took the matter seriously Emiru herself said the man was only detained hours after the incident following a discussion with her manager.

Twitch’s official statement read: “The safety and security of all those attending TwitchCon is our highest priority. The behavior displayed by the individual involved in the incident yesterday involving a high profile streamer was completely unacceptable and deeply upsetting.

The streaming platform then claimed “We immediately blocked this individual from returning to the TwitchCon premises, and they are banned indefinitely from Twitch, both online and in-person events.” It then stated security for Meet-And-Greet booths was increased afterwards.

Emiru has since spoken out about the incident and has understandably said she won’t return to TwitchCon for the foreseeable future.

The streamer said “I want people to be held accountable, and for things to visibly be changed but even so I personally am not going to another TwitchCon, I’m done … This is my final TwitchCon.”

As expected fans had nothing but admiration and respect for the creator’s decision and have publicly berated Twitch for allowing the situation to occur at all.

Many have even suggested a mass boycott for the platform, such as one X user who said “This Emiru hoopla will yet be another addition to the reasons I vehemently refuse to use Twitch. What I'd pay to see a massive boycott against that platform but yeah.”

Another added “People especially women should boycott twitch, until they apologize to Emiru, fix their security system and arrest Emiru’s abuser”

Since the incident other complaints regarding TwitchCon have arisen, such as from V-Tuber IronMouse. Like Emiru the creator held a meet-and-greet for fans who brought gifts for the streamer, only for security to throw them all out without communicating with IronMouse first.

TwitchCon 2025 has been disastrous so far, and hopefully the current situations as well as backlash from fans will incite some change within the platform moving forward, especially when it comes to health and safety on the convention floor.
