One Of The Most Underrated Horror Games Is Currently Free To Download

In the mood to be hunted down by shapeshifting aliens aboard a creepy, abandoned space station? You're in luck.

Who doesn’t love a good horror game? Well, actually me. Most of the time I’m playing them because what I anticipate to be a fun experience, ends up being me spending hours on end on pause hyping myself up to continue. Then again, no matter how terrifying the experience, I keep coming back for more.

There are plenty of great horror games on the horizon. We now have an official release date for the upcoming Dead Space remake, and titles like The Quarry or The Callisto Protocol are just around the corner. In the meantime though, a hugely underrated horror game is free to download right now.

In case you missed it, take a look at this brand new environment walkthrough from EA's upcoming Dead Space remake.

Arkane Studios’ 2017 first-person shooter Prey is currently free on the Epic Games Store, and you should really head on over and download it straight away. In Prey, you take on the role of Morgan Yu - an explorer aboard the space station Talos I. Sucks to be Morgan because Talos I is infested with a hostile, shapeshifting alien force called Typhon. Oh, and they have psychic powers. Great.

What makes Prey so chilling is that the Typhon can transform into any inanimate object, so they could literally be hiding anywhere. I feel on edge just thinking about that possibility. The game is free until 19 May so don’t hang about.

It’s not the only freebie as you can also pick up Redout and Jotun. Redout is a fun sci-fi racing game, whilst Jotun (no prizes for guessing) is based on Norse mythology and mixes puzzle-solving with exploration.

Prey is the real gem here but if the horror of worrying whether that chair is going to turn into an alien that’ll try to kill you any second now gets too much, at least there’s something wholesome (and free) to fall back on.
