Popular Twitch Streamer Faces Backlash For Buying Himself A Nice Car

Fans have criticised the streamer for being hypocritical, due to him making such an expensive purchase while promoting socialist views.

Roll up, roll up, let’s find out what people are mad about on the internet today. If you guessed ‘some guy buying a car’, you’d be right. Somehow. Sigh.

Well, it’s not exactly just some guy. Hasan Piker, better known as HasanAbi on Twitch, is a streamer who, as well as your usual gaming stuff, has grown a bit of a reputation for being a socialist, and promoting socialist views in his stream chats. So, a few days ago, when he streamed himself driving to a car dealership to pick up a shiny new Porsche, specifically one with a $200,000 price tag, fans were left feeling a bit confused, and quite upset.

Before we go on, be sure to check out some of our favourite livestream wins and fails below.

Basically, people thought that buying such an expensive car contradicted the socialist views that Piker supposedly stands for: “Even socialists need housing and transportation but Hasan Piker is doing his socialist fans a disservice by spending their money on a Hollywood mansion [and] a Porsche,” tweeted @FreeDaveSchwab. “That money could be used to build socialist organisations or feed hungry people, instead it’s enriching capitalists.”

What’s that about a Hollywood mansion, you say? Yeah, so this isn’t the first time that Piker has found himself facing controversy for buying things. Last year, he faced backlash after buying a $2.7 million dollar house, with fans criticising him for the hypocrisy of disagreeing with the existence of billionaires, while still going on to buy a very expensive house in a very fancy neighbourhood.

As you can imagine, Piker is getting quite sick of it all, tweeting out that he’s not some powerful political figure, but at the end of the day, just a streamer: “Nobody thinks I’m some socialist Jesus. I’m a Twitch streamer telling you why you’re probably angry,” he wrote. “All my content is free everywhere. I let [people] make money off their fan channels. Yet some still choose to give me money. At a certain point I’m sure people will stop being mad this.”

And he’s right, of course - all this will undoubtedly pass and people will find something else to get mad about. Until the next time he buys something expensive, of course. See you again in a few months?
