Simon Pegg insists we ‘don’t f***ing need’ Shaun Of The Dead 2

You know what? He's right

Simon Pegg, one third of the brilliant minds behind the Cornetto trilogy, once commented on whether we really need a sequel to Shaun of the Dead. It’s something that many fans have asked for despite the fact that the horror comedy is often seen as a perfect film by viewers.

Speaking to The Guardian, Pegg commented on those asking for a sequel saying, “If I ever do an Instagram Live or whatever, people are always like, ‘I need Shaun of the Dead 2 in my life.” Apparently it occurs often for the Hollywood star, so often that he has definitively said, “No, you don’t f**king need Shaun of the Dead 2! The last thing you need is Shaun of the Dead 2! It’s done. Move on!”

It's unlikely the Cornetto team could hit this high peak again, though it would be nice

He’s right. We don’t need it. Shaun of the Dead is at the peak of the horror comedy genre, it’s up there with Cabin in the Woods and Tucker and Dale Vs Evil. It’s a film so good that a sequel isn’t needed, just rewatch the goddamn film and quote it while you watch. There’s probably another reason as to why Pegg, Wright and Frost won’t go back to the film, they don’t want to ruin something so beloved because, let’s be honest, the third part of the trilogy, The Worlds End, was terrible compared to Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

Commenting further, Pegg said of his partnership with Edgar Wright, “Whatever Edgar and I do next, we’re not going to rely on what we’ve done before,” he continued by suggesting what could possibly happen, “I like the idea of pissing people off. There’s something fun about torching everything. Everything that people think we are, that’s what we won’t be.”

Pegg has found fame more recently with the Mission Impossible films alongside Tom Cruise, and whether he returns to British comedy projects is yet to be seen. For now, stop asking him about a Shaun sequel.
