With Rise of Skywalker finishing up Star Wars’ sequel trilogy, fans were left eager for more, especially when it came to what happened to some of their favourite characters.

Luckily for the first time since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hit cinemas back in 2019, we now have an official sequel which follows the story of Finn and Jannah and what they got up to after the events of the movie.

It comes in the form of Star Wars: The Last Order, an upcoming YA novel from New York Times bestselling author Kwame Mbalia.

Mbalia’s debut novel in the Star Wars universe takes place after the final events of Rise of Skywalker when the Resistance rescues a ship full of young passengers who have been kidnapped by the First Order.

That leaves it up to ex-Stormtroopers Finn and Jannah who set out on a journey to find the First Order officer responsible for these kidnappings before any other children fall victim to him.

As a result, Finn and Jannah must wrestle with their pasts and rebel against orders as they start a fight against the oppressive regime.

Published by Penguin Random House, Star Wars: The Last Order hits shelves on 21 October 2025 and fans are excited to get stuck into this official sequel.

Taking to r/StarWarsCantina following the news of the upcoming novel, Star Wars fans seemed to be hyped about the possibility of learning more about Finn and Jannah.

“Oh, I’m hyped!” user Skadibala said.

”Like opinions on the sequel movies aside.

The books and comics for the Sequel era have been surprisingly great and have made me really warm up to the sequel era as a whole.”

Another user agreed, adding, “This sounds really good! It feels surreal to finally get books starring the sequel’s heroes!”

Who knows? Star Wars: The Last Order may just inspire another movie in the future and it seems as though a lot of fans will be staying tuned for that update.
