It is an exciting time for Star Wars fans once again as fan-favourite characters Leia and Rey will be coming together once more in a brand-new sequel to The Last Jedi.
Despite Leia being the star of the original Star Wars trilogy whilst Rey took the reins in the sequel trilogy, the pair surprised fans by not only meeting but forming a deep bond in 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Portrayed beautifully by Daisy Ridley and the late Carrie Fisher, the pair gave viewers some of their favourite scenes in the divisive sequel trilogy so it is no wonder that they were desperate for more of Leia and Rey’s relationship.
Well, luckily, we are about to get more thanks to an upcoming sequel to Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: Legacy is an upcoming book which was recently confirmed at New York Comic Con 2025.
Written by Madeleine Roux, it will delve more into Rey’s Jedi training with Leia which takes place between the events of The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.
If you want to hear more, the short blurb reads as follows:
"After barely escaping the First Order on Crait, Rey and the Resistance are struggling to rebuild. Her friends need the last Jedi more than ever, but Rey feels alone and overwhelmed. Jedi tradition is built on masters and apprentices, and Rey’s teacher is gone.

"Leia Organa tries her best to train Rey in the ways of the Force as Luke did for her so many years ago, but Leia’s knowledge is limited, Rey’s lightsaber is broken, and the spectre of Kylo Ren and regrets from the past haunt them both. How can Leia pass the torch when she herself is unsure of the way?"
With the novel not set to be released until 28 July 2026, we still have quite some time until we can get our hands on more of Leia and Rey’s story.
However, it seems as though fans are already over the moon with the announcement.
“It's about time! Please keep the sequel character stories coming,” user mikachu93 shared over on r/starwarsbooks.

User Skadibala agreed, adding, “Ohh. Actually really hyped for this one.
The books and comics have skyrocketed Leia to my favorite SW character. And getting more of her training with Rey is probably gonna be a really fun and interesting time.”
So if you were eager for more of Rey and Leia’s relationship following the touching moment in the sequel trilogy, you are in luck as this exciting new novel is on the way.
Star Wars: Legacy by Madeleine Roux will hit major bookstores on 28 July 2026.
