Star Wars major recast praised by fans, and we can see why

Well done, Star Wars

The Star Wars universe is constantly expanding with the like of Andor on Disney Plus, and with that comes some difficult decisions for the creative teams as they try to bring back characters integral to the stories being told.

The latest of these problems was the recasting of Bail Organa in Andor season two, due to time constraints around the original actor.

Unfortunately, when it came to shooting season two of the show, Jimmy Smits, who played Bail Organa for many years, had scheduling conflicts that couldn’t be worked out.

This meant that Benjamin Bratt stepped into the role, however, fans believe it was the best decision and that Bratt so effortlessly played the part that it showed respect to Smits, as well as the fans.

Over on Reddit, viewers are praising the choice to cast Bratt who, according to one fan, “encompassed the character really really well.”

While fans would have loved Smits to continue his portrayal of Bail Organa, Disney pulled off the switch with ease.

“Benjamin Bratt was perfect as an older Bail Organa,” said Bespashin.

I haven’t managed to catch up on the latest season of the show, but I’ve seen a few clips and it seems that Bratt managed to work with what Smits had, and play the role with authenticity.

“It was a great recast,” said another Redditor.

If only this much care was taken in other recasts across media, making the situation less jarring for the audience.

“Let’s all be REALLY happy that they recast instead of giving us CGI Jimmy Smits,” comments CSWorldChamp, making a great point.

In the past, I wouldn’t have been surprised to hear that Disney had mocked up a CGI actor instead, but it shows the care taken in Andor, and it’s more respectful to the role and fans.
