Star Wars Mace Windu return talks teased by director

Where is my purple lightsaber?

Mace Windu was one of the most badass Jedis in the galaxy - no surprise given he was played brilliantly by Samuel L. Jackson, and the Jedi became a fan-favourite.

His demise, at the hands of the emperor, left many of us wondering whether he could actually survive a 200-foot fall, while being electrocuted. After all, stranger things have happened in Star Wars.

It has been teased that he could have survived, and Samuel L. Jackson has said in the past that he’d happily pick up the purple lightsaber again.

Well, one Star Wars director has teased that talks have occurred at Lucasfilm around bringing back Mace Windu.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Bryce Dallas Howard talked about how supportive Samuel L. Jackson has been of her Star Wars career.

“Sam Jackson has been incredibly supportive of me and has told me many times that he would act in something that I directed, which is, like, I'm not worthy, basically,” she said.

Howard revealed that after he said this, she went straight to Dave Filoni to ask if there was any way she could incorporate Mace Windu into a project.

She continued, “I went straight to Dave Filoni, and I was like, 'So, let's just talk about Mace Windu and where he is. Can we just talk about this? Because, is he dead? Is he?'"

Jackson had actually guested on this actual podcast three years prior and spoke on the idea that Windu was still alive.

Back then, he said, “There’s a huge history of people with one hand returning to Star Wars… The only person I’ve ever said that to about coming back was Bryce Dallas Howard, ’cause I just did a movie with her.”

He even spoke to Empire magazine and emphatically said, “HE’S NOT DEAD.”

Of course, nothing is set in stone, and Jackson will always talk up his favourite roles, but the idea is in Filoni’s head, and that of Howard, so maybe we’ll see Windu make a return.
